Sportway aiming for Norwegian expansion leading up to the 21/22 season.
Stockholm (22 March 2021) - Sportway is ready for expansion in Norway and is aiming to increase the number of AI-systems. Today 30 Norwegian ice hockey arenas are included in the network. Sportway's innovative video stream delivery systems also further reduces latency, elevating capabilities with Norwegian Ice Hockey Association's betting industry partner Norsk Tipping.
Sportway, in cooperation with the Norwegian Ice Hockey Association, have so far installed state-of-the-art AI production systems in 30 Norwegian hockey arenas in preparation for thousands of games to be live streamed as part of the 2021/2022 season. These 30 facilities contribute to Sportway representing the largest artificial intelligence (AI) sports production network in Northern Europe and provides the opportunity to deliver high-quality live coverage to media partner MyGame, for all levels of ice hockey below Fjordkraftligaen, which is domestically broadcast by TV2. Sportway is an industry leader in delivering automated video and data productions using AI to film, produce and broadcast live games, ensuring premium content on a personal level for players, families and fans.
"While hockey in Norway has been impacted by the pandemic, starting in 2019 we kicked off investing in expanding digital access at all levels of the sport via our installation program of high-quality, AI-supported live streaming production systems. The interruptions in the season due to Covid-19, provided us a window to further refine our technology platforms, including reducing the latency of our streams to about one second. This has proven to be useful for NIHF:s betting partner in Norway, Norsk Tipping, who rely on split-second information," said Daniel Franck, CEO, Sportway.
Once hockey returns to Norway, Sportway and Norwegian Ice Hockey Association's partnership will further deliver value for clubs and MyGame with an innovative module for game analysis and workshops on how to optimize player safety procedures by utilizing the video and data produced.
Together with their industry-leading AI live production partner Live Arena, Sportway's video productions are driven by an algorithm specially developed for ice hockey games. All of the action is captured using Sportway's fixed, unmanned cameras, which creates a panoramic view of the entire rink. The patented AI technology then automatically follows the game by panning and zooming in on key action, providing a professional viewing experience. The technology can also be linked with the Norwegian Ice Hockey Association's database and game secretariats to automatically generate real-time graphics, as well as replays and post-game highlights.
Sportway now has nearly 220 installed production systems across Sweden and Norway, with expansion planned across a wide spectrum of sports such as basketball, volleyball, floorball, handball, and other indoor sports. Sportway strives to bring the power of live and on-demand video streaming to sports organizations everywhere, in order to ensure that all sports, on all levels, are available for everyone. These innovative production systems backed by Sportway's scalable business model help unlock a variety of benefits for participating federations, leagues and clubs, including additional revenue streams via subscriptions or pay-per-view monetization opportunities.
